DOMINIKALIKASAN: Stewardship, Compassion, Transformation.

The unity of man and nature. Man is constantly aware of the influence of nature in the form of the air he breathes, the water he drinks, the food he eats, and the flow of energy and information.
This is what the DominiKalikasan is addressing. It being one both the human beings and the creation.. striving to be single in purpose. In purpose of serving through repeatedly sacrificing desires to do the right thing (stewardship). In the purpose of showing sympathy, pity and concern (compassion)and in the purpose of struggling to make a difference and change(transformation).
Dominikalikasan. How come dominikalikasan? Why Dominikalikasan? Through an uncomplicated and realistic explanation. Siena College Taytay is a Dominican institution who renders service in a Christ-centered and Marian-inspired manner realizing the mission of creation awareness, life preservation and earth transformation. The process is tough but realizing the significance makes it worthy.
First, stewardship. Mankind becomes increasingly concerned with the question where and how to obtain irreplaceable natural resources for the needs of production. That was too shallow. In the book The Purpose Driven Life, Rick Warren the author, stated that “The one thing required of such servants is that they be faithful to their master”. Indeed, we are servants of God and we are all stewards of God’s creation. To be a good steward is to administer the resources God has entrusted to us and with full responsibility and faithfully. God expects us to be trustworthy. The SCT is imparting and instilling on to the minds of each individuals of the institution that we owe everything to God, thus, we should respect and properly look after of it.
Second, compassion. Epic floods, tropical storms, earthquakes. Well, majority might thinking what is the best plan for all the major disruptions that climate change will undoubtedly bring. Well, that was too vague. We are just thinking of ourselves. Not thinking beyond, not thinking for the major reasons of the existence of these catastrophes. It’s because of you, because of me, the reason is us. It is not grasping of the major responsibility God has given us and what is it?? it is becoming the stewards of his creation. Compassion for creation. Sounds easy yet difficult to execute. Sympathy and concern for our environment are just few of so many ways to manifest that we care, to show that we give importance and love to our home.
Lastly, transformation. It requires positive action. Action for change. Adding the preservation and husbanding of the creation to our mission. It is being a good steward associated with the values of passion for change and compassion to the diminishing beauty of nature. Stevie Wonder once said “We all have ability. The difference is how we use it.” We have the ability to extend something but the question is how are you going to utilize your capability in some ways to transform and rehabilitate your temporary home?
Siena College Taytay since then has always been an advocate of promoting preservation, improvement of the environment and desiring to contribute something in the world, to make a difference in a very tangible way. The SCT realizes the Dominican mission of stewardship , compassion and transformation through conservation projects such as practicing the 3 R’s , reuse, reduce and recycle, segregation, junkville projects, tree-planting activities, gardening, film showings that enlightens environmental awareness of the students and employees and continuously researching and constructing environmental programs/projects. Simple ways of sustaining our precious natural resources right?? At it’s best, Sienans are united and continuously working and praying for nurturing the nature, making it clean, giving a hoot and not polluting.

SECRETS OF SUCCESS

Since then, there were individuals who proudly states experiences they've gone through before they reached the so-called SUCESS. One great example is Senator Manuel “Manny” Villar Jr.Manuel Villar Jr. was born on December 13, 1949 in Tondo a populated district of Manila. He was the second of nine children of Manuel Villar Sr.,a government employee, and Curita Bamba, a seafood dealer.As a young boy, he helped his mother sell fish and shrimp in Divisoria to help earn money to pay for his education.In 1975, with an initial capital of P10,000, Villar purchased two reconditioned trucks and started a business dealing with sand and gravel.Villar expanded his business interests and pioneered the practice of selling house and lot packages. He eventually became a leader in the housing industry, having built and sold more than 100,000 homes.He was a success. Thinking on how he overcome those obstacles from rugs to riches. They call it as SECRETS OF SUCCESS. They say, to be successful you need to have a clear, well-structured and realistic vision. You need to be persistent and somewhat aggressive on reaching your goals. Experiences are also to be considered. This stands as your motivation as you walk to the path of success journey. Lastly,heading towards the peak, you carry with you God. You need to put him as the personal driver of your life. Putting him first before any other undertakings.

TOWARDS THE NEW PHASE OF LIFE

Indeed there is a reason why students are pursuing to finish their studies. Whenever school year ends is an achievement for a student. It is a feeling that slowly, they know that they are heading towards the new phase of life. Days are so fast. In the remaining two months another batch of students will finally proclaim their achievement as a student: GRADUATION. No doubt, every student is dreaming of this day to come in their lives. For others, it is finally the day of reaping the fruits of their labor. For some, sleepless nights in doing assignments, projects and other requirements are over. For those who are looking forward, finally they are now ready to face opportunities that await them. For those who really bent and work hard to reach this point, at last for them this will really change their lives.

I AM A PASSENGER

I love life and I let one person to guide me in traveling in this so-called life. Thus, I can compare myself to a passenger letting the driver to manipulate my car. I love traveling though sometimes there are bumps and curved paths. Perhaps, I let this happened because I trust my driver. Life is full of surprises as expected. There are trials and challenges I need to overcome. There are problems that will test my character and personality. That's why I love life because these adversities that I will be going through will make me even stronger.It will give me a chance to grow emotionally and spiritually. These trials will manifest on how steadfast my trust is for God. It is like a blessing in disguise. But after all these I even love life because there is God who manipulates and governs it. He knows what's best for me.He guides me on every step and decisions that I take. That's why I let him to do what he wants and makes me enlightened on what my purpose really is.

DREAM

I recall during my intermediate years, I dreamt of becoming an educator. My father used to say then that it really runs in our blood. In our clan many are teachers. I remember then how I used to act like a professional teacher. I even used my dolls to served as my students. A part of the wall in my room where I scribble notes and lectures served as the classroom board. Come to think of it, I was like a crazy little girl who talked in front of dummies. It was a fuuny scenario whenever I recall on how I started to practice what I really want to pursue. Well, like what they said, you don't know the surprises of life. Fate led me to take up business course instead of education. I am not that disappointed instead it made me much aware to continue widening my capability. I know God has a better purpose for me. ; >
